If you wrote a story without characters, it would be the most strangest book in the world, if not hard. And being a writer you can have whatever character you want. Your mind can work in mysterious ways when you're scribbling away like a lunatic - it is one way of getting things off your chest too. (I may tell you about that one day.) But each person, creature, whatever is floating around in your memory can come to life. Those dreams, those fantasies, all down on paper, and no one will protest, because that person you have described, that minute detail is soon imbedded to another.
You only have to put good-looking, and that perfect face appears in their own mind. ugly, and the same is projected into their mind too. And when a writer can suck you into their own mind, then you are going to have one Hell of a journey. Love hate, passion, death - so many things can happen with a character that no matter if they are the goody or baddy, you can still feel overwhelmed and anxiety for that character.
As I mentioned on my previous page, I had to find an assortment of characters, and to me that was enjoyable. I searched for those perfect men, women and kids' in my stories. Having a family can help, if you have the nagging grandparent and whiny kid around you, that makes it easy. However, people walking around is just as good to gie you an idea of traits to use.
I watch them greedily, how they walk, talk, fidget, breathe, scratch, unconscious to themselves, but to a writer an important remedy for how you want your characters to be. And if you can just put the odd comment in your story of how that person reacts to a situation, then you have it made.
I needed eccentric, weird, strange, as well as serious, and sombre, so I did have my work cut out. I needed balance, an equal line in the middle. I did not want characters too over the top, but then again, I was in no mood for too many boring clever folk either, and so I began the search for my ideal people, and came up with a rather good mixture, ones that some people could relate too, and some that you may pass in the street and grin at.
With Alison Benson and the Realm of Wonders Union - the characters were far and few between, I wanted to get the readers used to the characters, to learn about them, before adding more in the picture. One thing I hate is a book with hundreds of people and you have to remember their names, when they appear three hundred pages later - annoying and a put-that-book-back-on-the-bookcase one. so I wished it easy to begin with, and then, throw people down the readers' throats, when they're used to the story.
So below, I will give you the main characters, who they are in the book, and if there is a tale to that person, then I will tell.
Alison Benson: Thirteen years old, and a very bright girl. A girl bullied by her peers because of her mother meddling in psychic activities, something she finds disturbing, and creepy. However, with her visit to Frinda and Queen Zantha informing her of her Mum's magic powers and of her late father, Jason, being a warrior, she soon respects what her mum can do, and maybe in her heart she wishes that she could be just as magical as her mum.
Carla Benson: Has been a member of the Realm of Wonders Union since sixteen. A psychic from a very early age, and one who predicted danger in a community centre, before Alison was born. And with the death of Jack Slater's mum, the village soon turned on Carla, calling her a witch and a murderer, hence for the bullying at school. Carla is one who assists the Realm as much as she can, so you will notice her time in the town hall in Onbrier.
Ldah Fortes: A lady nearing five hundred, and still going strong. A true union supporter and one who will do as much as she can in making sure all battle plans, and members of the union are up to date with the goings on around each universe they have access to. She is also Alison's teacher, a totally different person whilst in her pretence form. But her main reason for her being on Earth is so that she can protect the portals from the villains that roam around, hoping to cause mayhem.
With two personalities, my grandmothers were used. I had my strict Nan, who I always thought was the Queen, she did have a very dry sense of humour, mind. And my other Nan, who was always laughing, and one who had a funny story to tell. So thank you Nans' you are not forgotten, you will always be in my heart.
MATTHEW ARMSTRONG: A teacher, and a good-looking one at that, and one the girls fancy, because of his rebellious streak. He's also, a punk who plays in a local band called Ruin the Union. And a Warrior with a very nasty streak. But we won't find out about this, until the next book.
Prince Amir: He is my dark character, one that kills for pleasure, harms those around he loathes. He wishes his sister Queen Zantha, dead. For many at the Realm it was because he was not given his birth-right of ruling Frinda. But there is true deep reasoning for this and Alison, who happens to have the ability of looking into past memories, sees what his childhood was like, and soon sides with the Prince. However, what she sees is it the truth or a hoax to suck her in? Mmm you'll have to find that one out.
Queen Zantha: Her kingdom is in peril, and the need of the realm to assist her in a war that is looming is desperately needed. A woman who is genteel in her looks, and one who shows fear is one to be believed. But can that mask slip, and show her true self?
Sarah Butler: A girl to truly fear, as she thinks with her fists rather than her mind. And being protective of her best friend Alison, then be aware. She has her friends interest at heart, but with her hot head, will she cope with her own new future too?
Simon Slater: A boy who is in Alison's form, and a bully at that. However, when she sees into a past memory of his real life, his feelings change for her, and...well who knows?
Robert Harrison: An Egyption boy, who uses an english name? Well if you have a hard name to say in an English school wouldn't you change it too? But this boy has a story to tell of his forefathers, one that has made him the boy who Lidah was seeking for. However, his story is not going to be told for a long while. He is a character with an old head, wise, confident, and protects those he feels need his help.
Julu A' Vanda: You can't have a story without the real baddy. A witch that steals from the dead, and one that cares of no ones happiness. Her true form comes later on in the books, but for now, she is still around like a leech, a creature that will never be trusted.
Andrew Winters: caretaker and also a member of the union. He was once a warrior and had the ability of becoming invisible, until a battle which caused much damage, hence unable to fight, but still does his bit to help his comrades.
Other characters:
Dr. Dabila- Onbrien Doctor Zindel - a servant at the Palace
Frezca - potions maker Ahaz - the dark shadow
Concesta - law enforcer Frazer- The captian for Onbrier Army
Pig Face - Warrior Rundsflin, Princess Junda, Prince Josiah, Queen Belinthia
Jigger - Warrior All dead, but still have a story to be told
Jason - Alison's late father
And many more to add, when book two comes along, so be warned!
I hope this helps those who gets as confused as i do whilst reading.
